Once Constantine made them the official state religion in the 4th century they became like those whose hands they had suffered under previously.

Yes. It seems when you really are engaged in following Christ’s example rather than paying obeisance to church doctrine, you have the courage to defy even the Pope.

I went to an all girl prep outside NYC and that community wore buttons: Trust in God for she will provide and we were all alter servers well before it was allowed. I’m sure those nuns are not that progressive anymore since John Paul II came in. He might have been a nice guy, but he turned back progressive attitudes in the church about 50 years. It’s time for the Pope to serve the people of his flock – not the other way around. I am also a recovering catholic and I am a little disappointed in women who still support this institution. I know they say I don’t follow everything they teach, but if you keep writing checks to the church, you will keep these attitudes in place.
