<i>"It’s funny, even Mother Teresa doubted the existence of God and she was often stymied in her work by priests and bishops, but she had the guts to realize what her mission was and tell them basically to go to hell – in a very nice way. LOL"</i>

Yes. It seems when you really are engaged in following Christ's example rather than paying obeisance to church doctrine, you have the courage to defy even the Pope.

Good post, Larry! It is time for the church, all churches, to get the Hell out of politics. I have never been a fan of the church......and I agree that priests need to just need to do their job....

I think it's time for the nuns to revolt! I went to an all girl prep outside NYC and that community wore buttons: Trust in God for she will provide and we were all alter servers well before it was allowed. I'm sure those nuns are not that progressive anymore since John Paul II came in. He might have been a nice guy, but he turned back progressive attitudes in the church about 50 years. It's time for the Pope to serve the people of his flock - not the other way around. I am also a recovering catholic and I am a little disappointed in women who still support this institution. I know they say I don't follow everything they teach, but if you keep writing checks to the church, you will keep these attitudes in place. It's funny, even Mother Teresa doubted the existence of God and she was often stymied in her work by priests and bishops, but she had the guts to realize what her mission was and tell them basically to go to hell - in a very nice way.
